Perry Weather Lightning Notification System

The Perry Weather lightning notification systems are self-contained weather stations that monitor local, real-time conditions. The inclusion of lightning notification systems in the Town’s existing and future parks enables staff to enhance lightning safety awareness among park patrons.

The following procedures are to be followed when lightning has been detected.

Warning Signal:

These systems alert park patrons to nearby lightning through built-in sirens and strobe lights. The system will alert with one 5-second long siren blast when lightning is reported within 10 miles of the unit and the strobe light on top of the unit will start to flash.

All Clear Signal:

When lightning is not detected within 10 miles for 30 minutes, the light will stop flashing and the unit will sound three short blasts to indicate that lightning is no longer detected within 10 miles. The notification system will only activate during park hours, ensuring that alerts are timely and aligned with the park’s operational hours.

Safety Procedures:

1. Once the warning signal has sounded, all activities at Frontier Family Park will be suspended immediately. Patrons and players must exit all playing fields and open areas, and it is recommended that they seek shelter indoors or in their vehicles.

2. Once the warning signal has sounded indicating that lighting has been detected within 10 miles of the facility, a 30-minute delay will begin before the all clear signal will sound.  Please note that after the initial warning signal if there is another lighting strike within 10 miles, the horn will not sound again but the 30-minute delay will restart. Activities may be delayed longer than 30-minutes if there are multiple lightning strikes.

3. Once 30-minutes has passed from the last lightning strike within 10 miles of Frontier Family Park, the all clear signal will sound.

4. All patrons must wait until the all clear signal has sounded before activities may resume.

Caution:

The Perry Weather lightning notification systems help assess the conditions; neither the signal nor the system is intended to guarantee that conditions are safe. If the weather is threatening and no warning signal is heard or seen, use good judgment and clear the facility if deemed necessary.
