San Tan Heights is Located in San Tan Valley, Not Queen Creek
As a full-time Real Estate Agent in the Queen Creek area, I often hear about all the confusion around where the neighborhood, San Tan Heights, is located. A lot of people, even the ones who reside in San Tan Heights, mistakenly believe that it is located in Queen Creek. In actuality, San Tan Heights is nestled in the foothills of the San Tan Mountains, making it a part of San Tan Valley. Now you must be wondering, why are so many people confused about the location of this particular neighborhood?
But If I Live in San Tan Heights, Why Do I Have a Queen Creek Address?
The main reason for all the uncertainty is because the post office has San Tan Heights in a Queen Creek (85142) zip code for mail delivery. The US Postal Service established the zip code this way for efficient mail delivery, but this does not make STH included in the Town of Queen Creek’s boundaries. Instead, San Tan Heights is a part of unincorporated Pinal County. That being said, houses in unincorporated Pinal County are frequently referred to as “Queen Creek” because the post office uses the QC name in the mailing addresses, even though these homes are not within the town boundaries.
The gray section of the below map shows the Queen Creek’s town boundaries. As you can see, the green section (zip code 85142) is sometimes within the town boundaries; but, as in the case of San Tan Heights, it sometimes is not. Confusing, right?
But If My Address is in Queen Creek, Shouldn’t I have QC City Services?
Because the addressing system has caused so much confusion around whether or not STH is a part of QC or not, a lot of people automatically assume they have QC city services, such as water, sewer, trash/recycling, library, police, and fire. However, as mentioned before, San Tan Heights is a part of unincorporated Pinal County, which means the town of Queen Creek is not responsible to provide these services to STH residents.
