Can Changing the Color of Your House Get You More Money When Selling?

This is a question we as Realtors get asked frequently, and the answer is like a lot of questions in real estate….. it depends. A fresh coat of paint is always helpful when selling a home, but changing the color can sometimes be tricky. Here are a few things to consider when changing the exterior color of your home.

If the answer to any of these questions is no, you may want to reconsider your plans. If you can answer yes to all of these questions, and the color scheme is more pleasing to look at and creates better curb appeal, go for it!

I’ve recently started the project of transforming the exterior of my home with a new color of paint in preparation to sell. The “before” picture below highlights the unpleasant rusty, brown color that was there when I purchase the home.

I choose to brighten up the look of the home by swapping out the dark colors for a neutral taupe with ivory and brown trim. Like any home improvement project, this was certainly a process! I had to first do my research on the neighboring houses’ colors and also make sure that the HOA would approve of my choice before taking any further action.

As you can see in the picture of the final results, the whole exterior of the home looks and feels completely different! We all know how important first impressions can be, and the exterior of your home is the first impression potential buyers will have.

If you are thinking of selling your home and would like a professional opinion on whether or not a new exterior color would help you sell for more money, give us a call! We’d love to help!
